Kana - Kunjulu Road Construction (Phase I Completed)

Wasu Building Construction & Civil Works Limited (WBC&CWL) is pleased to provide an update on the Kana - Kunjulu Road Construction Project in Poroma LLG, Nipa Kutubu District, Southern Highlands Province.

This important road project is funded by the Department of National Planning and the Department of Works & Highways, in partnership with the Nipa Kutubu District Development Authority (NKDDA) under the leadership of Hon. Dr Billy M. Joseph 

Phase I has been successfully completed, with approximately 4 - 5 kilometres of fresh-cut bulk earthworks completed out of the planned 35-kilometre road corridor from the Kutubu Access Road towards Kunjulu. Our construction team worked through steep mountains, thick bush, rocky ground, and difficult weather conditions to open this first section of the road safely and to the required construction standards.

The Kana - Kunjulu Road is a development project that will directly benefit the people of Kunjulu Council Ward, home to more than 4,000 people across over 15 villages. The Ward also shares its border with Nembi Plateau LLG, making this road an important transport link for surrounding communities.

The road will improve access to essential services, including the local primary school, where teachers travel from outside the area to provide education, and the Aid Post, which provides basic healthcare services to the local population. Once completed, the road will make it easier for teachers, health workers, government officers, businesses, and the public to travel safely.

With Phase I completed, Phase II will continue the road towards Kunjulu. The next phase will include additional bulk earthworks, road formation, drainage construction, culvert installation, and gravelling to build a durable and all-weather road.
